"Jasper in Deadland" in Pasadena Aug. 5 and 6

For the first time in the history of the Pasadena Musical Theatre Program (PMTP), students will perform in an original musical production, Jasper In Deadland. Written and directed by award-winning composer and lyricist Ryan Scott Oliver, Jasper is a featured event in the 2011Festival of New American Musicals. Oliver, who grew up in Sierra Madre but now lives in New York City most of the year, is PMTP’s Artistic Director. He is also writing the score for Disney Theatrical’s upcoming musical, Freaky Friday, based on the hit movie.

Jasper in Deadland tells the story of 16-year-old Jasper, who loses his best friend, Agnes, and travels into the afterlife to retrieve her. But this afterlife, “Deadland,” is a hybrid of Greek, Roman, Egyptian, Norse and Judeo-Christian mythologies, divided into seven “circles.”
