Jerry Burgan in Covina Nov. 26

Jerry Burgan - Songs & Stories
with Debbie Burgan & Tholow Chan

A regular performer at the Fret House with the group, We Five, this will be Jerry’s first time on the Fret House stage since releasing his solo CD, Jerry Burgan – Reflections, Songs & Stories. He takes the audience on a musical journey through one of the most memorable periods in music -- the late 50s and early 60s when folk music exploded from its roots in back hollers and on front porches, to top the American pop charts. Jerry shares a remarkable blend of songs with tales he gathered touring America on the folk-rock wave singing classics like You Were On My Mind and Get Together. His Songs & Stories show is a totally engaging experience that explores pockets of our remarkable musical heritage most have overlooked, forgotten, or never really known about…

The sets are laced with a fabric woven from the spirit of Woody Guthrie, John & Alan Lomax, Pete Seeger and the Weavers, to the more contemporary artists they inspired when Jerry was coming of age in the mid sixties under the mentoring eye of John Stewart—No, not the comedic TV host, but the Kingston Trio banjo player, writer of countless classic songs including Runaway Train, Gold, and Daydream Believer, as well as an early pioneer of the musical form that’s come to be called Americana.

Jerry’s songs, stories, guitar and banjo are beautifully complimented by bassist and humorist, Tholow Chan. Also joining them for this show will be Jerry’s wife and lead singer from We Five, Debbie Burgan. Their stage rapport has a quality which can only come with time, and their arrangements reflect voices that can be disarmingly bold and beautiful.
