WAR to be honored during Arizona vs. USC football game

Legendary music group WAR will be honored with a special tribute during half-time of the upcoming Saturday, December 5, Arizona vs. U.S.C. football game held at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, airing nationally on ABC Network television this weekend. WAR will perform a medley of some of their greatest hits with the world-renowned U.S.C. Trojan Marching Band; and the performance will be co-conducted by band director Dr. Arthur C. Bartner and George Lopez, world renowned comedian and late night host of the successful “Lopez Tonight.”

WAR, over the last four decades, has recorded a roster of some of the most memorable hits of all time, including “Low Rider,” “Cisco Kid,” and “Why Can’t We Be Friends,” to name a few. With the band’s long-hailed musical virtuosity and influences that include jazz, rock, funk, soul, R&B and Latin, WAR has impacted its fans, as well as other musicians, regardless of race, generation or genre. With songs that have been sampled by artists from 2Pac, Ice Cube, Ice-T, Method Man, the Beastie Boys, Janet Jackson, and Barry White, etc.; Low Rider is also the theme song of the George Lopez Show, with songs featured on The Simpsons and King of the Hill; and motion pictures including Disney’s Beverly Hills Chihuahua, Lethal Weapon, Boogie Nights, Gone in 60 Seconds. Their music is also featured in such video games as Grand Theft Auto IV, Grand Theft Auto San Andreas, MLB 08, and Skate 2. WAR celebrates its 40th anniversary with 19 albums and 10 Top 10 Billboard pop and R&B singles, appealing to baby boomers, as well as today’s generation.
