With categories such as Park This, Wayfinding, Restrooms R Us and Employment Potpourri, three Pasadena-area disability advocates compete in a new television game show that’s fun and educational.
To celebrate the 20th anniversary of Americans with Disabilities Act this month, “ADA and Beyond” – a monthly program that highlights how the law assists people with disabilities to live full lives and enjoy their civil rights – changed to a quiz-show format modeled on ABC-TV's “Jeopardy.”
The contestants are Alma Dillard, member of the Pasadena Accessibility and Disability Commission; Kurt Hagan, deputy compliance officer for the county of Los Angeles; and Alex Marositz, assistant technology specialist at Pasadena City College. The host is Robert Gorski, the city’s accessibilities and disabilities coordinator and staff liaison to the commission.
In a spirited and fast-paced test of quick response and accurate knowledge, the three advocates vie to be the best in answering questions about ADA.
Questions asked include:
* In a parking area with 26 to 50 total spaces, at least how many must be accessible?
* In a parking area where accessible spaces are disbursed and not next to each other, on which side of the vehicle must the access aisle be located?
* What signs are required to have information in raised characters and Braille?
* At an outdoor chili cook-off there are 60 portable toilets available. At least how many must be accessible?
