Cold Duck concert, hike, art trip and more in Arcadia

Family Nature Hike
The Recreation and Community Services Department is taking a hike to Eaton Canyon on Saturday, August 14th. We will meet at 8am SHARP at the Community Center, board a bus to the trailhead in Sierra Madre and enjoy a relatively easy hike that totals four miles round trip.

Join us as we hike up to a canyon in the lower San Gabriel Mountains to a 40-foot waterfall. The lower stretches of this trail are pretty level, and wind through some brush and chaparral on the way to Eaton Canyon Creek. After that, it’s easy fire road hiking as the route follows just above the banks of the wide, rocky wash of the actual creek. This is where the trail gets a big more verdant, and you may be able to spot a few more wildflower blooms along the way.

The trail is single-track, rocky, and prone to crossing the creek…a LOT. So get your balance ready, or make sure that extra pair of socks is secure in your pack, then continue on. Be sure to bring sunscreen and a hat. The $15 fee includes transportation and lunch. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Annual End of Summer Carnival
The Recreation and Community Services Department will be celebrating the end of summer with our annual carnival on Wednesday, August 11th from 10am – 2pm at Eisenhower Memorial Park (corner of 2nd and Colorado). This year’s theme is “Board Game, Board Walk”.

Enjoy bingo, board games, raffles and a Twister Tournament. Carnival games are available for a nominal fee and offer fun, kid- friendly prizes, so be sure to bring lots of change. Bring a picnic lunch or purchase a delicious snack from our Hungry, Hungry Hippo Snack Bar.

National Night Out promotes crime prevention and awareness through police-community partnerships. Arcadia’s Police and Fire Department will be joining us for this very special occasion. Free fingerprinting for the kids, crime prevention materials and other information will be available. Stop by and show your support to Arcadia’s finest. But wait…that is not it! Help Arcadia celebrate our 107th birthday by enjoying some birthday cake (while supplies last) sponsored by Arcadia’s Historical Society.

Since it’s inception over two decades ago, Cold Duck’s philosophy has been directly responsible for their continued success: “Give the people what they want to hear and have a good time delivering it!” With this solid experienced musicianship, it should come as no surprise that Cold Duck is renowned for being one of the most versatile bands in existence. Cold Duck continues its tradition of excellent musicianship and groovin' rhythms. So let’s have a good time dancing the night away!
