Lynyrd Skynyrd on A&E's "Private Sessions" Aug. 1

Rock and roll legends, Lynyrd Skynyrd, join host Lynn Hoffman for an in depth interview and performance on an all-new episode of “Private Sessions” this Sunday, August 1 at 9AM ET/PT on A&E. The southern rock band discusses their hardships and triumphs and perform some of their biggest hits and new songs off their recently released album “Gods & Guns.”

Lynyrd Skynyrd began their musical career while in high school under the band name “My Backyard,” in Jacksonville, Florida. The group had little success in their first few years, but producer Al Kooper signed the band to MCA Records after seeing them play at an Atlanta club and soon after, the group became notorious for their well-known song “Free Bird,” which has since become a staple of album-rock radio. In 2006 they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Lynyrd Skynyrd will open up to Hoffman about the 1977 plane crash that killed former band members Ronnie Van Zant, Steve Gaines, Cassie Gaines, and assistant road manager Dean Kilpatrick, and left other band members seriously injured. They will also discuss their inspiration behind their latest album “Gods & Guns,” as well as a surprise appearance from Bret Michaels to discuss their upcoming tour. Lynyrd Skynyrd will perform their top hits including; a one-of-a-kind extended version of “Free Bird,” “Sweet Home Alabama,” and two new releases; “God & Guns” and “Still Unbroken.”

Filmed in a small, intimate studio in New York City, “Private Sessions” showcases exclusive performances and conversations with top names in entertainment with a focus on contemporary music ranging from rock ‘n’ roll to pop to country. Each Sunday morning “Private Sessions” explores the body of work of a single artists or group and feature current releases as well as career-building, influential or defining projects.
