Cable Park opens at Big Bear Lake

Two 20 foot towers equipped with a cable pulley system now stand erect in Big Bear Lake to give wakeboarding a new lift! The Cable Park at Big Bear Lake, the first of its kind in Southern California, is now open. The two-tower tow system wakeboard park with 500 feet of cable allows wakeboarders of all skill levels to enjoy wakeboarding without any pressure. The main purpose of the cable park is to give anyone interested in the sport an opportunity to easily and quickly learn. The unique wakeboard cable park is much more affordable at $25 per hour compared to $150 per hour from behind a boat.

“Anyone who has ever dreamed of riding a wakeboard can now do so,” said Desi Hauer, owner and operator of the Cable Park at Big Bear Lake. “That includes beginners who want to learn the sport to advanced riders who want to hone their skills. We’re making wakeboarding dreams come true right here in Big Bear Lake.”

The Cable Park is very eco-friendly too, running on a diesel-powered generator. The fuel-to-rider ratio is 5 to 10 gallons per rider behind a boat, compared to 4 to 8 gallons per day on the generator, which could get up to 100 riders with less fuel consumption.

The Cable Park at Big Bear Lake is located in Metcalf Bay, which will consistently have excellent glassy water conditions throughout the day for perfect aerials. The cable park is also good for water skiing, wakeskating and kneeboarding. In the next few weeks Hauer plans to install features such as sliders, boxes and jibs for all levels of riders who want to advance their skills.

“The wakeboarding community now has a place to hang out. We plan to have professional riders regularly give demos; we’ll have DJs playing music on weekends, it’s going to be a great vibe!” added Hauer.

The Cable Park at Big Bear Lake is located at Pleasure Point Marina, 603 Landlock Landing Road in Big Bear Lake. Hours of operation are Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and weekends from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. The cost to ride is $25 per hour, $40 for two hours, or $60 for half-day (4 hours). Riding hours must be used consecutively, and are non-transferable. All participants must wear a Coast Guard approved life vest and helmet. Life vests are supplied, but all other equipment is not included. Participants may either bring their own equipment, or rentals are available on location and at local board shops in Big Bear. The cable park is also available for private parties up to 20 people for $250 per hour.
