Massachusetts-based ENERGY started recording a new 3 song EP today, set to be released this Fall from Bridge Nine Records! Titled Walk Into the Fire, the band recently unveiled a demo of the eponymous first track to great praise on www.myspace.com/thisenergy. Vocalist Jason Tankerley said, "These songs are a step in a whole new direction, one that Mike and I have been messing around with for quite some time now. He and I have a side project called 'Children Of The Night' that has been really creating a pretty unique sound. We started doing that about 6 years ago, before Energy was a band. Mike recently joined Energy and we've been creating a lot of music with the COTN feel to it ever since."
Featuring catchy choruses, melodic vocals and keyboards, the Walk Into The Fire EP will be somewhat of a departure, musically, from Energy's 2008 release Invasions of the Mind. "We feel as if with every album so far we've been reinventing the band's sound and this EP will be no exception. With a lot of bands that release albums, you know what the whole thing is going to sound like within the first song or 2. One of our many goals is to have each song really stand out in it's own way. We don't want a batch of songs that all sound uniform, we want a wide array of melody and feeling that will keep listeners (and us) interested.", said Tankerley. One thing is for sure - judging by what the band delivered on the "Walk Into The Fire" demo track, this is going to be a helluva EP.
Energy is self-recording this EP with engineering help from Robert Cheeseman and Greg Thompson (formerly of Debaser) to speed up the process. Tankerly commented, "We haven't had much luck working with other people in the past as far as getting the sounds we want on our records, so we decided to do this ourselves. After all, no one knows how Energy needs to sound more than Energy does."
Energy has toured the globe over the years with bands like H2O, Four Year Strong and Set Your Goals and the band will tour in support of the release of the Walk Into The Fire EP. Stay tuned to Bridge9.com for news and announcements as they happen.
