Dave Jorgenson brings country music to China

Singer Songwriter Dave Jorgenson and his band were chosen by the City of Houston to perform Texas Country Music at the First International Sister Cities Culture and Art Conference November 17, 2007 in Houston's Sister City, Shenzhen China.
Dave, with band members Adrian Rodriquez on Guitar, Kenny Orts on Bass, and Caleb Bierstedt on drums, joined musical groups from 4 other nations in showcasing the unique music and dance from their respective countries. Singers and dancers from Brisbane, Australia, Luxor, Egypt, Kavala, Greece, and residents of the Taoyuanju Community from the Bao'an District of China joined Dave and the band in staging a gala show Saturday night that was attended by more than 2,000 people. The group gave another performance two nights later in an outdoor arena to an enthusiastic crowd of thousands. Other events during the week included almost 200 different artists from 10 cities.
During their stay, Dave and the other artists were given tours of factories, schools and points of interest by their hosts.
"We hope that the events--offering the opportunity of face-to-face exchanges--will help foster friendship between locals and residents in our sister cities. Hopefully, the culture and art week will become an annual or biennial event," said Li Xianmin, an official from the Shenzhen Municipal Foreign Affairs Office.
"We were proud and honored to be able to represent the United States and perform our music for the people of Shenzhen China." Dave Jorgenson said.
"The audience loved the music, and we sincerely appreciated the warm hospitality they showed us during our visit." He added. "This was a unique opportunity to play our music in a venue and for people who had never been exposed to Country Music."
Dave grew up in rural Kansas, but is now living in Austin Texas. He has been writing songs and performing professionally since high school, and has released two CDs of his original songs. He has opened for several Country Music Legends, including Merle Haggard, Chris Ledoux, and the Bellamy Brothers. He received the Rising Legend Award from the Traditional Country Music Association in 2007. Currently, he is performing in Clubs and Dance Halls around central Texas.
