Roots Roadhouse mini-festival in Echo Park July 31

The Roots Roadhouse is an all day country/roots/blues mini-festival set for Saturday July 31, 2010, 3pm at the venues Echo / Echoplex in Echo Park, CA. Presented by The Echo, LA Record’s L.A. Folk Festival, and the Echo’s weekly club, Grand Ole Echo (http://www.myspace.com/thegrandoleecho ) (celebrating it’s 5th year at the venue), Roots Roadhouse will use the two live music rooms, two patios plus create an outdoor stage. Featured artist is Dave Alvin & The Guilty Men (http://www.davealvin.net/) who take the listener on an American music trip covering the styles of honky tonk, rockabilly, Cajun and basic rock n’ roll.

Bakersfield born and bred legacy country singer Red Simpson (http://www.myspace.com/redsimpson ) will also perform. A contemporary of Buck Owens and Merle Haggard, Simpson is known for his truck driving songs including the chart toppers, “Hello, I’m A Truck,” “Sam’s Place” and “Roll Truck Roll.” T Model Ford (http://www.myspace.com/tmodelford ) is the elder blues statesman; all the way from Forrest, Mississippi his raw and primal blues can turn any room into a backwoods juke joint. New to the line-up is Speedbuggy (http://www.myspace.com/speedbuggy ) who modernize honky tonk and music for the working man. Metal blog City of Devils branches out from their format and has booked three acts with the tag “insurgent bluegrass” – infusing high energy and attitude to the the American tradition.

Playing on the outside stage will be Killing Casanova (http://www.myspace.com/killingcassanova) , Last Round Down (http://www.myspace.com/lastrounddown ) and Old Bull (http://www.myspace.com/oldbull) ).

The seen-around-town BBQ trucks of Q Zilla (http://www.qzillabbq.com/ ) and Barbie-Que (http://www.barbiesq.com/) will be serving up their versions of pulled pork, brisket, mac’n cheese and collard greens.

In addition to food and music, local vendors will be on site as well. Old Style Guitar Shop (http://www.oldstyleguitarshop.com) will be on site showing off their 70s-wood paneling guitar crafted just for the invent. Plus vintage jewelry and clothes from Le Mondern Trickets (http://lemoderntrinket.com/ ) and Stuck On Vintage (http://www.stuckonvintage.blogspot.com/) The Echo patio will also hold games of bingo with prizes ranging from gift certificates, free tickets, t-shirts and CDs.

The rest of the Roots Roadhouse line up includes: Chatham County Line (http://www.myspace.com/chathamcountyline ) from Raleigh, NC and Michigan’s Frontier Ruckus (http://www.myspace.com/frontierruckus ) who are coming off Roling Stone magazine praise that calls them, “the perfect recipe for Gothic Americana.” Pete Anderson, Leslie and The Badgers, The Chapin Sisters, I See Hawks in LA, Olin & the Moon, Triple Chicken Foot, Whispering Pines, Old Californio, Amanda Jo Williams and Philip Roebuck are also on the bill.

Entrance for the event is at 1154 Glendale Blvd between Park and Scott Avenues.

Tickets are available at ticketweb.com: advance tickets are: $15.00 / $17.00 dos; 14 years old and under $10.00. A limited amount of tickets can be purchased at Grand Ole Echo for $13.00
