Cool events in L.A.

Don’t think the partying is over just because the last firework has popped – Los Angeles is still in high gear next week with these sizzling events:

Monday, July 9 – BMI Acoustic Lounge at Genghis Cohen (740 N. Fairfax Ave, Los Angeles). Free.
7 pm.
Love Story Hero, Jessica Lombard, Emily Tessmer and Beau Davidson.
The Acoustic Lounge is one of many opportunities BMI offers artists to showcase their talent. The atmosphere is relaxed and fun, offering a great opportunity for artists, media and industry to mingle, and providing all a chance to monitor new musical trends and catch the first glimpse of LA’s rising stars.

Thursday, July 12 – American Cinematheque presents “Sleepwalking Through The Mekong” screening at Egyptian Theater (6712 Hollywood Blvd, Hollywood).
$10.
Director John Pirozzi’s documentary follows the Los Angeles-based Dengue Fever as they travel to Cambodia to perform their unusual collection of songs. Fronted by Cambodian pop star Ch’hom Nimol, who sings in Khmer, the sextet blends the rhythms of 1960’s Cambodian pop – heavily influenced by American surf, rock and early psychedelic garage bands – with their own eclectic mix of American and international styles.
PLUS: the short, "Between Times" (7 min.) directed by and featuring Dengue Fever, and a video of their song "Sni Bong" (3 min.). There will be a post-screening discussion with director John Pirozzi and Dengue Fever band members.

Tune into 97.1 Free FM “Media Whores” with Roy Trakin and Dave Adelson this Sunday, July 8 from 5 – 7 pm to hear Zac, Ethan and Paul from Dengue Fever.

Friday, July 13 – BMI PICK OF THE MONTH: The 88 @ The Troubadour (9081 Santa Monica Blvd, West Hollywood.)
$12, doors at 8 pm.
All Ages.
Presented by KCRW. Satisfaction opens. Show info: http://www.troubadour.com/
