Drop Dead Gorgeous touring with new record

With an intense, frenzied blend of post-hardcore, metal and emo-style melodies, Denver-based Drop Dead, Gorgeous are ready to hit the scene this summer with a brand new record and a high-profile spot on stage as part of this year’s Vans Warped Tour. Inked to Suretone Records, the quintet will debut their new single, “They'll Never Get Me (Word With You)”, today, July 5, on www.AbsolutePunk.net. As part of the tastemaker site’s Absolute Exclusives Program, the ferocious new track will be hosted with its own page at www.absolutepunk.net/dropdeadgorgeous, where fans can offer commentary and discuss the track in special web forums. The single will be followed on August 14 with the release of the band’s sophomore full-length and Suretone debut, Worse Than a Fairy Tale.

Worse Than a Fairy Tale was recorded in L.A. with super-producer Ross Robinson (Korn, Slipknot, The Cure), who is known for pulling passionate, razor’s-edge performances from the bands he works with, as well as veteran mixer Chris Lord-Alge. The conceptual collection of interrelated songs showcases the uniquely dissonant yet melodic Drop Dead, Gorgeous. Worse Than a Fairy Tale is a smart concept album as well as an interactive experience for fans, telling the story of a serial killer who plies his trade in a small fictional town called Saylor Lake. Every song connects the pieces of the puzzle, and listeners will have the opportunity to decipher the mystery themselves through a multimedia experience on www.worsethanafairytale.com, which will feature postings and artwork related to the story.

In anticipation of the album’s release, the band will hit the road this summer as a featured act on the Vans Warped Tour 2007, alongside such fellow heavy-hitters as Bad Religion, Pennywise, Alkaline Trio, The Used and many more. Drop Dead, Gorgeous joins the long-running annual tour starting on July 28 in Chicago and continues through August 25 in Los Angeles. Prior to the Warped Tour, Drop Dead, Gorgeous will head south of the border to tour Mexico with The Devil Wears Prada.

The five members of Drop Dead, Gorgeous came together in Denver and quickly signed with Rise Records in September 2005 after being discovered by the label through songs posted on their MySpace and Purevolume Web pages. While half of the band members were still in high school, the prolific group released their debut EP Be Mine, Valentine in early 2006 and their full-length, In Vogue, several months later. Following extensive touring throughout that summer with the likes of Senses Fail, Scars Of Tomorrow, Eighteen Visions, Bullet For My Valentine and others, the group signed with Suretone Records and immediately began work on their sophomore effort, Worse Than a Fairy Tale. Respected tastemakers Alternative Press magazine named Drop Dead, Gorgeous as one of their “100 Bands You Need To Know In ‘07,” calling the group’s music an “expertly mangled mélange of serrated guitars, blast-beat breakdowns and sharp-tongued sarcasm.” For tour updates, streaming music and more, check out: www.myspace.com/dropdeadgorgeous and DropDeadGorgeousRock.com.
