For London, England’s JUST JACK, tackling the US music scene isn’t a matter of hitting it head-on, but punching it in the gut. With a new album Overtones on TVT Records set for release in the US on August 28th, mastermind Jack Allsopp has already conquered the UK with his intelligent genre-hopping, jump-up album, topping the UK charts with the single “Starz in Your Eyes”.
Pulling together aspects of rock, dance, soul and jazz into a highly palatable and fiercely creative yet seamless fashion, Just Jack isn’t a man about scenes but a man about vision. He has been hailed on each side of the Atlantic for both his “[Jarvis] Cocker-esque skill for social analysis” (MOJO) and his ability to filter “disco, house and electro... pitched between Jools Holland and the Ministry of Sound” (Uncut). Allsopp’s knack for writing witty pop songs that make you think while making you groove has even struck a chord with Sir Elton John who is counted among his most vocal fans.
The follow-up to his acclaimed debut album The Outer Maker, Overtones is a hybrid of pop/soul/ska/funk/jazz which one critic calls an “accomplished album that establishes Jack as the most thoughtful new voice in the British pop scene.” From the funk-driven shuffle of “Writer’s Block” to the acoustic-led “Hold On” to the driving pop soul of the first single “Starz in Your Eyes”, Overtones is a diverse and exciting new flavor that shifts and changes without losing its beat.
Just Jack will be playing a showcase in NYC in July. Confirmed date and venue is forthcoming.
