Maroon 5's new effort goes platinum

Multi-platinum, Grammy-winning pop quintet Maroon 5 have achieved platinum status with their sophomore album, “It Won’t Be Soon Before Long” (A&M/Octone), which was released on May 22nd. The album debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 selling 429,000 copies the first week, the second highest debut of the year, and is now certified platinum by the RIAA for sales reaching 1 million in less than 3 weeks.

“The early success of the record is amazing, we’re all really proud of this album and happy that people are going out to buy it so quickly,” said Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine.

“It Won’t Be Soon Before Long,” the highly anticipated follow-up to the band’s multi-platinum debut “Songs About Jane,” enjoyed early success before it was available in stores. The single, video and album all reached #1 on iTunes sales charts and the album broke iTunes records, selling more pre-sale copies than any other album. It has spawned a #1 single on the Billboard Hot 100 with the upbeat “Makes Me Wonder,” which leaped 63 spots to the top of the chart, the largest jump in the chart’s 49-year existence.

Critics agree with fans about “It Won’t Be Soon Before Long.”
USA Today says, “Defying pop’s decline, the quintet appears poised to replay the grand slam of its debut.”
The LA Times agrees, "Maroon 5 has suited up in formal wear and gone in for the kill. 'It Won't Be Soon Before Long,' the band's sophomore outing is an icy-hot blend of electro-funk and blue-eyed soul that works its cruel streak with the confidence of Daniel Craig's James Bond,”
and according to Billboard, “No sophomore slump here.”

Maroon 5 recently embarked on a 6-city club tour in support of the new release with stops in Boston, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Minneapolis and New York. On July 10th, the band will open for iconic group The Police in Miami.

Maroon 5 is Adam Levine (vocals, guitar), James Valentine (guitar), Jesse Carmichael (keyboard), Mickey Madden (bass) and Matt Flynn (drums). Their debut album “Songs about Jane” earned the 2005 Grammy Award for Best New Artist, has been certified quadruple platinum in the U.S. and has reached gold or platinum status in over 35 countries. The album has sold over ten million units worldwide. In 2006 the group earned another Grammy for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal for a live recording of their international hit single “This Love.” Known for their commitment to the environment, Maroon 5 was honored at the 2006 Environmental Media Awards.
